My Opinion.

I just got word that someone reviewed my work and honestly I expected a bad one and I wasn't disappointed.

I have to admit that the person's criticism is fair but I can't call in constructive because that would of required him to send it to me or let me know that it happened.

I do have one small problem. I think it's rather arrogant and rude to take my work, rewrite and then publish it to his own site. His review stands well without this act.

Maybe this is a nit to pick but I think it's mine to do.

I am requesting without any authority to force him to do so and without a threat of any kind, to please remove the rewrites from his site.

So does anyone have an opinion on this?

I don't think you have much of a basis to make the request, and it seems a bit childish to do so.

Once a work is published, and in the case of fan fiction, posting on a message board would count as publishing, the work is subject to review. With or without the author's specific permission. The act of publishing is implicit permission in and of itself.

It is generally accepted that a review may contain excerpts. And in this case, a contrast was drawn using the excerpted text, and comments from the reviewer, including restructuring of the selected portions.

If your work had been parodied without your permission, that would be one thing, but that is not what happened in this case.

Fair assessment and as I feel I’m entitled to my opinion so are you of course. I have to say that I’ve never seen a review where portions of the story are rewritten. Again I feel his review is fair and I make no argument to his points. So anonymous I would love some links to reviews where the work was rewritten. I’m sure I can offer a considerable portion more where it doesn’t happen. Generally accepted to rewrite someone else’s work, I don’t think so.

I guess I don't see the problem. The rewrites help to illustrate the points made. To me, complaining about the rewrites is complaining about the points, so even though you've said you don't have a problem with the points the reviewer made, it still seems to me that you do.

No as I said I find the review fair and the points valid.
I think he could have made his points without taking liberties with my work. (I seem to remember him doing that at the end. With a made up example.)

I guess that's what really bothers me. He didn't just review my work and point out flaws. He took parts of it and "corrected" them. Thats the step I don't think he had a right to do.

Personally, I believe that if he wanted to give you a partial beta read, then he should have done it through e-mail or PM on the PPMB (he does still have an account or two or more there, even if he doesn't want to use them.)

CINCGREEN does have good insights. But he can also be very caustic to the point of whining. That's just proof that he's human.

Lately, I'm inclined to take his opinion with a grain of salt.

But then again, I've recently been through his wringer myself, so I may be a bit biased.
